When a case is completed in Superior Court (County Court), the judge will issue an order, called an Exoneration, directing the commissioner of finance to refund the cash bail.
To get a bail refund, you must bring the following documents to the Westchester County Finance Department in person:
- Original Exoneration document (“Refund of Cash Bail” form from the judge)
- Original Bail Receipt received when you paid the bail
- Photo ID
If the original bail receipt is lost, complete the Lost Bail Receipt Affidavit, have it notarized and submit it to this department.
Checks are issued in approximately one week to ten days.
It is important to note the following:
- Checks can only be mailed to or picked up by the person who posted the bail.

- If bail is to be refunded to someone else or more than one person:
If the bail is to be refunded to someone other than the person who originally posted it, complete the Assignment of Bail form, have it notarized and submit it to this department.
If the bail is to be refunded to more than one person, complete the Partial Assignment of Bail form, have it notarized, and submit it to this department.
All mailed requests must have the original documents and a copy of the photo ID.
